Kickapoo Tribe of Oklahoma · FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE
Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)
Federally funded heating and cooling assistance “designed to alleviate the immediate threat of utility service disconnection (i.e. electricity, gas, propane or heating oil/wood).” Cooling assistance runs May 1 to September 30 and heating assistance November 1 to April 30. Households may receive assistance once per heating season and once per cooling season, plus a one-time crisis assistance after one or both seasonal benefits are exhausted. Services cannot be duplicated: a household that received LIHEAP from another agency in the same period cannot receive it from the tribe, and vice versa.
Who's eligible
Any Enrolled Tribal Member Income Based Geographic
The FY26 application lists four requirements: the household must reside within the Kickapoo Tribe of Oklahoma service area; the applicant must be enrolled in a federally recognized tribe; the applicant must be 18 or older; and combined household income for the 30 days before applying must be at or below the Federal Poverty Guidelines. The Social Services page states the area as "Kickapoo jurisdiction & 15 miles beyond Kickapoo jurisdiction" and adds a second path: applicants "enrolled in a federally recognized tribe and reside within the original boundaries of the Kickapoo Tribe of Oklahoma or must be enrolled in the Kickapoo tribe of Oklahoma and reside within the state of Oklahoma." Required documents: CDIB or tribal enrollment card for the applicant and every household member, birth certificates for non-enrolled children, Social Security cards, photo ID for adults, the current utility bill or disconnect notice, income verification for the last 30 days, proof of residence (rental agreement if renting), and a signed Declaration of Income and Release of Information for every adult.
Where it's offered
Regional
Two geographies apply: enrolled members of any federally recognized tribe who live within the Kickapoo jurisdiction or 15 miles beyond it, and Kickapoo Tribe of Oklahoma members anywhere in Oklahoma. The jurisdiction is described by rivers and roads (Deep Fork River, Indian Meridian, Kickapoo Street in Shawnee, North Canadian River), not counties, so the row cannot be ZIP-matched.
