Okla
ABOUT

Built by & for the people of every tribal nation

Speaking with people in our communities I found so many youth didn’t think they could go to college or trade school, elders who couldn’t get their surgery, families who need help with food or rent but lived away from their reservation so thought they couldn’t get the help they needed. So many tribes, nonprofits, organizations, and government departments offer help dedicated to native people but sometimes its hard to find the information or understand the information. I set out to help solve that problem.

I would look at every tribe, index their social programs and resources, then uniform the eligibility data into a searchable database that could easily be used to find the help indigenous people need without searching 10 different sites or calling 4 different numbers. So far I’ve added 31 tribes, 21 organizations, & 1,328 programs. The number grows quickly, with my hope that I can automate the process of updates as well as index every program from every one of the 500+ federally recognized tribes in the United States so that no matter your tribe or location you can find help.

How I work

01

1st Party Reporting

I don't list programs or resources from third parties, if it shows on Okla I've pulled it from the tribe or organization itself. I'm constantly checking programs for changes to ensure we are up to date.

2

Verified, not scraped

Every program gets re-verified twice a year at least. If you find something to be wrong I encourage you to reach out, I do my best.

“When Shawnee was hit by a tornado I called spent hours on the phone before we found the right program from the right organization. An app like this one could have done it in minutes.”
