Who qualifies

Citizens of this tribe
Income Based

Enrolled Navajo Nation member living in New Mexico, Arizona, or Utah; members living in other states are directed to apply through their own state LIHEAP program. Service is intended for households on the reservation, but the page notes "exceptions may apply for Navajo tribal members living off the Navajo Nation" — ask the local Financial Assistance Unit office. Monthly gross income cannot exceed 60% of the state median. Households receiving TANF, SNAP, or SSI are categorically eligible. Priority given to households with members aged 60+ or with verified disabilities, and households with children aged 5 and under.

How to apply

PhoneIn-Person

Contact your local Navajo Division of Family Services (Financial Assistance Unit) field office by phone or in person. Call 928-871-6556 or email info@ndcfs.org for current application status and office locations. Applications were not open as of 2026-09-03 and the two ndcfs.org pages disagree on why: the LIHEAP program page still reads "LIHEAP applications are closed for 2025" while the Financial Assistance Unit index says applications "are paused until mid-December while we process ones already submitted." Benefits are awarded first come, first served each fiscal year (October 1 through September 30), so call to confirm the current window.
