Who qualifies

Citizens of this tribe

The deceased must be an enrolled member of the Kiowa Tribe. The applicant — the "responsible party," meaning whoever signs the funeral home invoice, bill, or contract on behalf of the deceased — does not have to be a tribal member, and all communication runs through that person. No assistance is provided if burial costs have already been fully covered or a pre-existing burial policy addresses all related expenses, and any amount above the $8,000 and $500 limits is the responsible party's to pay. Required documents: the signed and dated application, a copy of the deceased member's CDIB, the funeral home invoice or bill, the signed funeral home contract, and a death certificate (or a draft death certificate from the funeral home if the final one is not yet available).

How to apply

PDF Download

The responsible party downloads the current Burial Assistance application and submits it with the deceased member's CDIB, the funeral invoice or bill, the signed funeral home contract, and a death certificate or draft death certificate. The application does not name a submission channel — call Social Services at 405-648-0417 or email ss01@kiowatribe.org to confirm where to send it. Paper copies are available at the Kiowa Complex in Carnegie and the Social Services office in Anadarko. Mailing address: PO Box 369, Carnegie, OK 73015.
