Higher Education Grant
A grant for Ottawa tribal members attending an accredited college or university, processed through the Bureau of Indian Education’s Oklahoma Area Education Office. Students can be funded for up to 10 semesters.
Who's eligible
Tribal Citizens Only
The Education page lists: "Be an enrolled member of the Ottawa Tribe of Oklahoma," be admitted to an accredited institution of higher education, "have financial need as determined by the eligible institution's financial aid office," and apply for all available campus-based financial aid. The application packet says the award "is Merit based," that students must keep a 2.0 GPA (12+ hours is full time; fewer is part time), and that a student who falls below 2.0 is placed on probation for one semester and then suspended until the GPA is restored.

How to apply
Download the Ottawa Higher Education Application. New applicants need the application, a copy of the tribal enrollment card, a letter of admittance, an official transcript, a Financial Aid Needs Analysis form, a signed student agreement and a verification of enrollment; renewals are due every semester. The packet sets due dates of January 30 (spring) and September 30 (fall) and says to mail everything to the BIE Oklahoma Area Education Office, 200 N.W. 4th Street, Suite 4049, Oklahoma City, OK 73102. The Education page, which is newer, says to send BIE scholarship applications to the BIE contact by email, without a Social Security number, and that transcripts do not need to be official. Call the Education office (918-542-5191) to confirm the current process.
