Tonkawa Tribe of Oklahoma · FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE
Housing Purchase Assistance
A one-time $5,000 grant toward the purchase of a home, paid directly to the lending institution, mortgage company, or title/abstracting company. Notably, the policy states there are no income requirements.
Who's eligible
Tribal Citizens Only
The policy states: "Purchase assistance shall be for Tonkawa Tribal Members only and will be provided as funds are available." Members must qualify for the balance of the purchase price from a private lending institution, mortgage company, and/or other public assistance program. "There shall be no income requirements and the assistance from the Tribe is not taxable for federal or state income tax purpose." Grant amounts are $5,000 and limited to one time only. Disbursement is made to the lending institution, mortgage company, or title/abstracting company rather than to the member. Selection is made by the Tribal Committee from a waiting list maintained by the Tribal Committee and/or the Housing Program.
Where it's offered
Nationwide
The purchase assistance policy publishes no service area, county list, or residency requirement — eligibility keys on Tonkawa tribal membership and on qualifying for a mortgage. This differs from the tribe's low-rent program, which is tied to physical units in Tonkawa.
