Absentee-Shawnee Tribe of Indians of Oklahoma · FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE
AST Burial Assistance Program
Up to $6,000 toward funeral and burial costs for a deceased enrolled AST member, paid to the funeral home (and to a backhoe vendor when the family arranges the grave separately). Up to $400 of that may instead go toward food ($200-$250) or tobacco ($150) for the funeral if the family indicates the need.
Who's eligible
Tribal Citizens Only
The deceased must be an enrolled Absentee Shawnee Tribe member. The child of an enrolled member also qualifies, from conception through three months of age, if that child would have been eligible and was not enrolled in another tribe. Adoption and other singular traditional ceremonies from other tribes are not recognized for payment. The application and supporting documents must reach the Social Services office within 60 calendar days of the date of death.
