Kiowa Higher Education Award Program
Supplemental financial assistance for Kiowa students attending a college or university and in good academic standing. A limited number of awards is available each academic term, based on available funding. Certificate and vocational programs are served by the tribe’s separate Adult Vocational Training application instead.
Who's eligible
Tribal Citizens Only
Open to all Kiowa Tribe members regardless of residence. The requirements are cumulative, not alternatives: tribal membership documented by a Kiowa Tribal Enrollment Document from the Enrollment Office, enrollment at a college or university, good academic standing, and demonstrated financial need. The award cannot be made unless the student completes the FAFSA and their school returns a Financial Needs Analysis; a signed FERPA release, a Verification of Enrollment from the registrar, an official transcript (or high school diploma for an incoming student), a Social Security card, and a statement of intent are also required. A new application is required for each semester funded, and again when transferring schools.
Where it's offered

How to apply
Apply through the Kiowa Education Agency portal at kiowa.smapply.us, which needs a free SurveyMonkey Apply account. The portal publishes a window per term — fall opens August 15 and closes October 15, spring opens January 15 and closes March 15, summer opens May 15 and closes July 15 — and the Fall 2026 cycle was open as of 2026-09-03 with an October 15, 2026 deadline. The department page publishes a different set of dates (December 15 for spring, April 15 for summer, July 15 for fall, with priority consideration at the start of each funding period, July 1 for fall and November 1 for spring), so confirm the operative deadline with the office at 405-648-0916 before relying on either. Under FERPA the office may discuss an application only with the student.
