Who qualifies

Citizens of this tribe

The Funeral Home page states the eligibility requirements as: "The deceased must be an enrolled member of the Comanche Nation"; "Proof of Enrollment is required, such as a Tribal Enrollment Letter from the Comanche Nation Enrollment Department, verifying enrollment." It adds: "Burial Assistance may be provided in cases where a newborn or infant dies before they are enrolled with the Comanche Nation, provided that the deceased was eligible for enrollment. Amount of assistance will be up to $5,000.00 for an infant/newborn." The maximum is $10,000 for burial and $5,000 for cremation "due to the difference in costs of services." Critically: "Burial Assistance will not reimburse the immediate family member if the burial costs have been paid in full by the family or if a burial policy is expected to cover all burial expenses" — so apply before paying. The service application "must not exceed 30 days from date of death." Required documents are the CDIB or tribal enrollment letter of the deceased, a statement of funeral goods and services, and an invoice signed by the next of kin. Incomplete applications are held for at least 30 days and services are contingent on funding.

How to apply

Online FormPhoneEmail

Submit the Burial Assistance application within 30 days of the date of death, together with the CDIB or tribal enrollment letter of the deceased, the statement of funeral goods and services, and an invoice signed by the next of kin. Apply through the online form or call (580) 360-0528. Apply before paying the funeral home in full — the program will not reimburse costs already covered.

Where it's available

No residency requirement or county list is published. Eligibility keys on the enrollment of the deceased, and payment goes to "the funeral home of their choice," so the benefit is not confined to Oklahoma.
