Comanche Nation · FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE
Indian Child Welfare — Client Services
Support for certified Comanche foster homes, current foster and kinship carers, guardians and adoptive families of Comanche youth — financial assistance, counselling, driver’s education and transportation, extracurricular activities, summer camps, clothing and bedding, educational support, and emergency placement support. Initial maximum funding is $1,000.
Who's eligible
Tribal Citizens Only
The program states: "These services are available for Certified Comanche Foster Homes, those currently fostering Comanche youth, those who have adopted Comanche Youth, and those completing a Safety Plan with Oklahoma Human Services (OHS). They are only available to Comanche youth in Foster Care who are enrolled or may be an eligible member of the Comanche Nation and are between the ages of 0 and 18." The department’s own page adds guardianship of Comanche youth to that list. "The initial maximum funding amount is $1,000. This amount may vary depending on available resources and whether further assistance is required," and "the program does not pay for legal fees." Services run one fiscal year, 1 October to 30 September. Supporting documentation: CDIB of the youth, photo identification of parents or foster parents, documentation for placement or a safety plan, utility bills, rental lease agreement and invoice for service — needed once per fiscal year unless requesting financial assistance, in which case the most recent bill must be submitted. Where a parent or guardian is unavailable and formal custody documents are absent, the program will consider a signed caregiver statement, school enrollment records listing the caregiver, a letter from a social service provider or other verifiable documents. After documents are submitted a short assessment is completed and the applicant is notified by phone within one to two business days.
