Medical Travel Assistance

Cash assistance toward the cost of travelling to medical appointments and hospitalizations away from the reservation. Published allocations are $200 for travel out of state, $160 for a patient flown out or receiving inpatient services, $160 for a two-day appointment, $120 for a one-day appointment, and $80 (or $90 with an approved escort) when travelling with an IHS or CHR driver. Veterans receive a flat $30 for any appointment plus CHR transport. Cancer patients travelling to Glasgow, Sidney MT or Williston ND receive $25 per appointment or $100 per week.

Geographic

The published policies state the applicant "must be an enrolled member of the Fort Peck Assiniboine and Sioux Tribes" and "must reside within the reservation boundaries (90 days minimum for eligibility)." A written medical appointment or hospitalization is required, and the patient must first be seen by an IHS physician unless flown out on a weekend or holiday. Enrolled members applying on behalf of a non-enrolled person must be married, common-law married, or have legal custody of the minor. Applicants must not owe money to the Medical Assistance Program. Sidney and Glasgow MT and Williston ND count as local travel and draw no assistance except for cancer patients. Psychiatric appointments and related hospitalizations need written approval and must be deemed medically necessary.
