Title VI Part C Native American Caregivers Support Program (CSP)
A federally funded caregiver support program offering respite care, counselling, training, support groups, supplemental services, outreach and a lending closet to people caring for a chronically ill or disabled elder — and to grandparents raising grandchildren. Respite pays 10 hours a week for up to 12 weeks, and participants may re-apply every six months.
Who's eligible
Any Enrolled Tribal Member
The program page lists eligibility as: care receiver "Must be 55 years of age or older"; "Caregiver must be 18 years of age or older"; "Must be an enrolled tribal member of a federally recognized tribe"; the care receiver "must be chronically ill or have a life-altering physical, mental or developmental disability"; grandparents raising a grandchild under 18; "Absent parent(‘s) may NOT reside in the home"; and "Those who rely on a caregiver for at least two activities of daily living needs." Caregivers "cannot obtain services from other Caregiver programs while with CSP." The respite provider may not live in the same household. Required documents are the patient’s CDIB or citizenship card, proof of address, and for grandparents raising grandchildren, verifiable documentation of custody. Applicants can expect a home visit to determine eligibility and are notified within 10 business days if they qualify. Funded by the Administration on Aging under Title VI Part C.
