Comanche Nation · ELDER CARE
Elder Program (Home Rehabilitation Grant)
Up to $8,000 in tax-free grant assistance for home repairs, renovation and rehabilitation for tribal elders aged 62 and over who own and occupy their home. Notably, elders over 62 are exempt from any income requirement.
Who's eligible
Any Enrolled Tribal Member
The program page states: "Qualified elders, age 62 and up, can receive up to $8,000 in tax free assistance for home repairs, renovation and rehabilitation," and carries an explicit income note: "As an Elder over the age of 62, you are exempt of any income requirement." Required documents are a copy of the CDIB card, proof of homeownership including legal description (deed, abstract of title), proof of residency in the form of a utility bill in the elder’s name at that address, and proof of age. If a mortgage exists it must be in the name of the elder tribal member. The maximum is $8,000 per house even if more than one homeowner in the household qualifies, and once the maximum is used the home is ineligible for further assistance from this program for two years. Covered work includes water, sewage, sanitation, major electrical, heating and cooling issues and gas leaks; hot water heaters, sub-floors, flooring, foundations, roofs, doors, windows, emergency generators, cabinets, drywall, siding and weatherization; tree trimming or removal where trees endanger the foundation, roof, water or sewage lines; handicap accessibility renovations; and repair or replacement of ranges, cooktops, hoods, ovens, refrigerators, washers and dryers. The elder selects their own contractor and submits the quote for approval. CNHA has announced a waitlist for this program and asks applicants to update the application annually with a Statement of Continued Interest. Appeals go in writing to the Executive Director.
Where it's offered
County
The program page states: "The Jurisdictional Area consists of Caddo, Comanche, Cotton, Grady, Kiowa, Stephens and Tillman Counties in the state of Oklahoma," and repeats the same seven counties in its FAQ. Unlike CNHA’s rental and lease-purchase programs, the Elder Program reaches beyond the five-county area into Grady and Stephens, and the elder’s home need not be in CNHA’s own inventory.
