Grandparents Raising Grandchildren

Who qualifies

Any enrolled tribal citizen

The program page states: "Eligible applicants must be an enrolled Comanche grandparent or a grandparent of an enrolled Comanche child" — so a non-Comanche grandparent raising an enrolled Comanche grandchild qualifies. "Participants must present tribal affiliation documentation along with legal documentation; such as Legal Guardianship from Tribal or State Court." "The grandchild(ren)’s parent cannot reside in the home. A home visit may be conducted at random to verify household composition." If the grandchildren are legally adopted the grandparent is not eligible, "since they assume the role of 'Parent'." Financial assistance is available twice per year at $400 for one to two children, $500 for three to four and $600 for five to six, based on funds available. Emergency utility assistance is paid directly to the vendor on an as-needed basis, up to twice a fiscal year. Payments made to the grandparent require receipts returned to Social Services within thirty days; failure to do so closes the case until the following fiscal year. The application requires a copy of the court-ordered guardianship, the grandparents’ CDIB and driver’s licence or state ID, and CDIB, school ID, report cards and shot records for all grandchildren, or some identification for non-Comanche children.
